📚Happy World Read Aloud Day & Happy 100th Day of School! 📚
Today was extra special at our school! A huge thank you to our amazing principal, Mrs. Rayburn, for visiting each classroom and sharing the joy of reading with our students. The kids loved listening to her read aloud and were so excited to share their own stories with her, too!

It's World Read Aloud Day and our guest reader, Mrs. Rayburn, came with a great message!

Most 4th graders were not happy to see that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and we have 6 more weeks of winter! However, the kids who earned the AR recess for January had a blast sledding and playing in the snow!

Hi North families. Please make sure that you pay attention to the Important Dates section of The Buzz! Have a great weekend!

Meet our January Students of the Month! They stood out by showing true optimism, thoughtful prudence, relentless perseverance, and warm social intelligence. These qualities light up our hallways and lift up their classmates every day.

By the end of the week Jan 26-30, all 6th graders will have visited South School to help kindergarteners in STEAM class. They loved the chance to be the leaders assisting younger students. Thanks to our transportation department, administration, and Mrs. Hinddbaugh-Marr for making this opportunity possible.

Wear your favorite team colors tomorrow in support of Michigan State University or the University of Michigan! You can always support our yellow jackets and wear blue and gold!

Please join us for our North Elementary Invention Convention tonight from 5:30-7:30pm. Enter through the library doors to see the great projects on display.
Students engaged in learning history through reading "Can't You Make Them Behave, King George?'

Special thank you to Jack the crossing guard! The weather never stops Jack from shoveling and sweeping the sidewalks to make sure the children can cross our roads safely. Our students love Jack! Thank you for helping our students stay safe.

Ms. Fonger's sixth grade students had a wonderful visit at South Elementary! These sixth grade scientist leaders collaborated with Mrs. Hindbaugh-Marr's kindergarten STEAM class. Both classes are learning about forces and motion and how the weight of objects changes how it moves, so this partnership worked out great!

Our Invention Convention projects will be on display at North Elementary Thursday, January 29th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Please plan to stop in and see what our young inventors have been busy creating!

Once a month our students hear a Principal Chat from Mrs. Rayburn about character and how we can make our school a better place. This month’s message (shared by Mr. Andrews while Mrs. Rayburn was on a field trip) focused on how our decisions and choices become consequences. It was a powerful reminder for students and staff alike. Thank you, Mr. Andrews, and thank you, Mrs. Rayburn, for these meaningful moments.

Today, our 5th graders visited Abrams Planetarium at MSU, and it was truly out of this world! 🚀
In science class, students learn all about stars, constellations, and our universe, and this field trip gave them the opportunity to expand their learning in a visual and exciting way. Students loved hearing the stories behind the constellations and had a blast going on the unforgettable “space roller coaster!”
A huge thank you to our bus drivers for getting us to MSU safely and to all of our amazing chaperones for helping make this experience possible. It was a fantastic day of learning and fun!

Yearbook prices increase after February 1st so don't delay!

North and South Elementary teachers had a cold snowy day of ELA collaboration. Thank you to our literacy coach, Heidi Barnaby, for providing amazing PD! We spent our time together learning from one another through conversation and collaboration.

4th graders worked diligently to re-create the historic Jamestown settlement after reading a historical fiction book about how Jamestown was founded, showcasing their impressive creativity and imagination.

Curious where the next generation of travelers will go? Our sixth graders are diving into an Africa research project: locating their chosen country on a map, drawing and coloring its flag, listing languages spoken, and discovering culture and history. This hands-on assignment sparks curiosity and a love of exploration — perfect for inspiring future trips and global awareness!

Students in Ms. Sopocy’s 5th grade class have been learning about the Civil Rights Movement. In ELA, they read The Watsons Go to Birmingham – 1963 and kicked off a Civil Rights research project with a hands-on station activity.
Students explored events, historical figures, photos, and newspaper articles, recording their observations and discussing each station together. Next, they’ll begin their projects by becoming newspaper reporters, learning history in an engaging and interactive way!
