North Elementary was well represented in the Student Technology Showcase at the Capitol today! Hazel Strong, Remington Rose, MJ Vozar, and Brooklynn Leadford presented the neat ways we use technology in STEAM at North Elementary. They received many compliments on their presentation skills and content knowledge!

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Supporting Others When They Struggle. This means when other people are struggling, we do our best to help them out.
Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence.

4th graders put their persuasive skills to use when they presented a slide show describing why Michigan is the best state!

Our 4th grade Lego teams did AMAZING at their first competition today! Team A received the ROBOT DESIGN AWARD 2nd place and team B received the RISING ALL-STAR AWARD! I'm so proud of these young engineers!

4th graders had fun in the snow this week! The smiles and laughter were worth the time it takes to put on all their snow gear!

Our two 4th grade teams will be competing in our district's first Lego League competition Saturday at Freeland High School. They have been working on their projects since September and are very excited to celebrate their hard work with other 4th-6th grade Lego teams from across the state.

Sixth grade students on Fridays use their writing skills. Each week the students respond to math writing prompts. This empowers students to express their mathematical thinking in a personal and meaningful way. The personalized connection with math not only aids in understanding but also helps to foster a positive attitude towards the subject.

Congratulations to our November Students of the Month! All of these students have been caught demonstrating positive character strengths during the month of November!

Sixth graders learned about biomedical engineering today by creating multipurpose surgical tools. They then tested them with our STEAM-lab version of the game Operation. Students needed to remove three different objects from a box without knocking down any golf tees!

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of KINDNESS. Kindness means you are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people.
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”--MARK TWAIN

The students appreciated the strings presentation by Miss. Chaffee today!

4th graders were grateful for the pumpkin pie that was made or bought this week! They also had the opportunity to plan the perfect Thanksgiving dinner- which included a lot of gummi bears 🤣!

Fifth graders read Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade and collaborated to construct working marionettes!

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday November 22nd is a half day of school and students will be dismissed at 11:35 AM.

This week our school community will spend the next three days focusing on the character strength of Gratitude as we head into the Thanksgiving break. Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism. And, the great thing about gratitude is that it can be intentionally cultivated.
