4th grade Halloween games and activities! What a fun day!

We would like to thank everyone who came to parent/teacher conferences last week! We appreciate everyone who took time to be with us to discuss your child’s continued learning. At North we had a 92% turnout for those that attended their child's conferences. Parents who were unable to attend, please feel free to contact the school or your child's teacher for updates.

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others. Everything that you say and do can affect others -- and your relationships with them.
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”--MOTHER TERESA

North Elementary Halloween Parade Information: 👻 We will begin promptly at 2:15 PM leaving North School heading South on Pine River Street to Center Street and back up to Main Street to the school. 🎃 Parents may view the parade along the route, but please do not join in the parade walking path. 🧛 Once students are back to their homeroom classroom after the parade they may be signed out by their adult from the office. Halloween Costumes Guidelines: 🎃 Halloween costumes - Yes. 🧟 Brought to school - not worn to school. 🧙♀️ No weapons, blood, gore, or inappropriate references. 👻 Staff will not be doing makeup or hair. 🧛 Allow time for changing into costumes before the parade. Backup Plans 🎃 If it is raining or snowing, we will hold the parade in the gym. 👻 Parents can be in the gym during the parade. Parents will not be allowed to pick up students until all students are back in their classrooms.

Sixth graders constructed and tested tennis rackets in STEAM lab this week. It was great opportunity to use their creativity!

Sixth grade students have been hard at work on posters and presentations to wrap up their unit on the water cycle. They are using their knowledge of the water cycle to determine if human development to an area would increase or decrease a stream flooding. On Monday they will demonstrate their knowledge by presenting their opinion and helping to pick the best solution using constraints and criteria!

Just a friendly reminder that there will be no school on Friday, October 27th. We hope everyone has a relaxing three day weekend!

Just a reminder that this evening and tomorrow both afternoon and evening are the times for parent/teacher conferences. If you don't recall your child's time or date, please call the office. Parent-teacher conferences are an essential tool to keep you updated on your child's progress. We look forward to seeing you!

As an extension of their hydrosphere unit in science, fifth graders were challenged to build water towers that could hold full bottles of water 7 inches off the ground. Some serious problem solving skills were used today!

The rain held off to make it a perfect trip to Forest Hill on Friday! The students were engaged the entire time learning about bird banding, what kinds of critters live in the pond and trying to identify animals by looking at skulls!

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of CREATIVITY. Creativity means you come up with new and original ways to think about and do things.
Creative people can look at the world in original ways. They are open to new experiences, and have an imaginative and independent thought process. They generate lots of different ideas and can pursue them with energy and enthusiasm. Creativity is a process that takes courage. Anytime you share your original ideas with the world, you risk being criticized or even ostracized.
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”--MAYA ANGELOU

Today was another "Heroes in the Hive '' at North! We love having our wonderful community members come in and support our students. They help build positive relationships with our students as well as provide community support!

Fourth graders experimented with bean bag launchers in STEAM lab this week. They were challenged to hit a target at 4 feet, 6 feet, and 8 feet and realized that the tasks were much easier to accomplish when the results of each launch were carefully analyzed.

5th graders had an engaging opportunity to become empowered science learners today while we were using our new digital microscope!

After reading Mrs. Chicken and the Hungry Crocodile, third graders used Botley robots to demonstrate how Mrs. Chicken may have swapped the eggs in the story. Each team collaborated to devise four different solutions!

Mr. DeRosia's and Mr. Smith's classes collaborated together and used teamwork for some dodgeball!

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Integrity. Integrity means you are honest and speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely.
Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs.
“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.”--BOB MARLEY

Community Pride and school spirit were evident today!!! Third graders truly enjoyed the band, cheerleaders, and the Homecoming court. They are ready for the parade and game.
