We have been studying & enjoying a book in our Bookworms ELA (English Language Arts) lessons called, "Ada's Violin." We are privileged to have a strings instructor as part of our staff, the wonderful & talented Mrs. Faith Chaffee! Mrs. Chaffee brought in her violin today and taught our class the parts of a violin. We loved hearing her play this beautiful string instrument! Mrs. Chaffee
has been playing violin since she was 5 years old. Her violin is made of maple wood, and the strings on her bow are horse hair! Thank you Mrs. Chaffee!

Today our Junior Jackets participated in ACES at IHS! Thank you, Mr. Rayburn, for organizing a fun event and thank you to all our families that showed up and walked with us!
Thank you Ithaca PTO for funding the purchase of new indoor recess activities. Our Junior Jackets are using them to feed their creativity on rainy days. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our generous PTO!
In preparation for ACES day, kindergarteners read a story about a dog running out on a track during a race. They were then challenged to build tracks out of magnet blocks and construct a separate "dog viewing area".

Our 2nd grade students have been working extremely hard on their narrative writing. This week, they collaborated with a partner to edit and revise their narratives. They are now in the final stages of their writing process, and final copies will be completed this week. 📝✏️💛

We had a special visitor in kindergarten today. Mr. Gary Ester, a local bee keeper, came and talked to us about bees and honey. Students got to touch honeycomb, beeswax candles, and taste fresh honey off of a frame. Thank you Mr. Whitford for arranging this wonderful experience for kindergarten!

First Graders had a great trip to MSU today! Their first stop was lunch and ice cream at the Dairy Store. Then they walked over to the Butterfly Gardens where students got to plant a geranium flower plant, interact with live butterflies and look through telescopes at butterflies and other insects.

Last Friday we celebrated Grandparents/VIP day at South! It was wonderful to have so many happy, smiling faces in our hallways. Thank you to our staff, teachers, and families for making this such a special day!
Today Mr. Rayburn and Mrs. Vozar were 'pied' in the face! These students won the opportunity to pie them during the PTO Carnival earlier this month.
Thank you Jillian Stapleton and helpers for giving our kindergarten and DK students an opportunity to create a beautiful piece of art based off of the book, "Albert. Our students really enjoyed using different art tools as well as creating a gift for a family member! Thank you to our wonderful Ithaca PTO for funding supplies for this experience!
