Sixth graders were challenged to design a parachute that would bring a washer to the ground as slowly as possible. Collaboration was necessary for all steps...planning, building, testing, and revising!

Hi North Families!
We had a great first week of school! Please remember there will be no school on Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4th! Enjoy your Labor Day weekend and we will see you Tuesday!
Swarm Together,
Mrs. Rayburn

Fifth graders started their "Earth's spheres" unit in STEAM by designing animal road crossings. Their bridges needed to allow two clay animals to access forest and water sources by crossing two roads.

North Elementary welcomes our newest paraprofessional, Marcine Shaffer! Marcine was a substitute paraprofessional last year at North and South Elementary! We are excited that she is joining our staff full time! When she is not working with our students as an aide, Marcine can be found at her children's sporting events cheering them on! She has one dog and two cats.

North Elementary welcomes our new 4th grade teacher, Katherine Raymond!
Katherine was a student teacher last year in 4th grade here at North and we are excited that she is now back as a classroom teacher! She graduated from CMU. Katherine enjoys reading and listening to audio books.

Great start to the beginning of the year! Our sixth graders had a principal chat with Mrs. Rayburn today. Some talking points we discussed at the chat were to be a role model to the rest of the students at North, the new changes with our school handbook, 6th grade camp and to be kind! We also were reminded to 'Swarm Together!'

It's that time of year...our 6th graders are selling candy bars to fund their way to camp! Candy bars are still just $1 each and come in a variety of flavors: Caramel, Milk Chocolate with Almonds, W.F. Crisp®, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, & Wafer Bars. New this year is a pledge form. Students are looking for sponsors to donate and help them fund their way to camp. Thanks for all your help with our 6th grade camp fundraiser!

Our wonderful community does it again! Thank you Ithaca Physical Therapy, INC for surprising us with BIGGBY and The Hearthstone Oven treats this morning!

Tomorrow is the First Day of School! We are looking forward to a brand new school year and can't wait to welcome everyone back! See you all tomorrow, Monday, August 28th.

Wow! Education is truly a team effort! Over 91% of our students attended the North Elementary Open House with Parents/Guardians! We are all looking forward to a great year and remember to "Swarm Together!"

NORTH ELEMENTARY BACK TO SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
Thursday, August 24 @ 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
We are excited to see everyone!!

Our Chief Science Officers attended a drone seminar this week to learn about career options in this rapidly expanding field and test their own drone controlling skills!

Be on the lookout Ithaca!
3rd and 4th grade spent some time early this week in Summer School painting Kindness Stones. Students could choose to paint pictures, or kind words onto these stones as a way to share a smile with someone when they might need it most. During a walking field trip, students engaged in spreading kindness with everyone downtown and tucked their Kindness Stones in different places in our community with the hope that they can brighten someone's day.

3rd and 4th grade spent some time this week in Summer School learning about birds native to Michigan and learning about the different nesting habits of birds. We took a nature walk just outside of the school this week to gather supplies to try to build "nests" similar to our native birds.

Kids are engaged and learning during North Elementary summer school and we are having a great time!

We wish all of our staff, students and families a wonderful and restful vacation. Be sure to read over your summer break! See you back to school on August 28th!

We would like to wish our sixth graders congratulations as they get set to move onto junior high school next year! It's been a wonderful year and we look forward to watching you continue your success next year and beyond! Just remember to 'Swarm Together' and make North Elementary proud! Class of 2029
