5th graders collaborated with 4th graders to creatively advertise some of the books they will read next year!

Sixth graders created miniature golf courses in STEAM lab and spent time testing them out this week. Each hole required the golf ball to navigate around, under, or over three different obstacles and proved to be quite challenging with our meter stick and clothespin "clubs". Perseverance was key!

4th grade was able to visit our beautiful capitol building and the Michigan Historical Museum thanks to the support of the PTO! We would like to give a big thank you to the parents and grandparents who helped us paint the shirts to wear!!!

Today, our empowering high school seniors took a final stroll through the halls of North Elementary, greeted by cheering students wishing them all the best! 🎉 It’s a bittersweet moment filled with resilience and hope as they embark on their next journey.

Please join us for ACES Day at the high school track on Thursday, May 22nd! We will begin walking around 9:30am!

Dear North Families, We hope you have a great weekend! The warmer weather feels amazing!

🚍✨ Field Trip Fun at the Sloan Museum! ✨🚍
Our students had a fantastic day exploring the Sloan Museum! They kicked off the trip with an exciting STEAM challenge, building cars from recycled materials. Creativity and teamwork were on full display!
Students explored a variety of hands-on science exhibits, including the always-popular water table, which was a definite favorite. 💧🔬
They also walked through fascinating history exhibits, focusing on Michigan’s rich history, with a special spotlight on Flint, Michigan. From innovative concept cars to learning about the famous Flintstones who played at MSU. It was a day packed with discovery and fun.
A BIG thank you to our amazing PTO for fully funding this field trip for all of our students! Your support made this unforgettable day of learning possible. 💛
Thank you also to our wonderful chaperones and the Sloan Museum for providing such an engaging and educational experience.

Third graders experimented with balanced and unbalanced forces in STEAM lab after designing their own balance scales! They were challenged to compare various classroom items (erasers, binder clips, tape rolls, etc.) and determine which items were heaviest.

Fourth graders continued their renewable energy unit by learning about wind turbines that have large fringed blades to mimic owl feathers for noise reduction and small curved blades to mimic maple seeds for increased movement. Their models of these unique turbines were fantastic!

Third graders from Mrs. Taylor's and Mrs. Schneider's classes completed a community service project supporting G.A.I.N.(Gratiot Animals In Need) Thank you so much to all that donated! We love animals!❤️

Fifth graders used their knowledge of properties of matter to investigate materials used in common appliances. They collaborated to "reverse engineer" old laptops, monitors, lamps, phones, and alarm clocks and were surprised to find out what was inside!

5th graders learned empowering lessons on not just golf but also about life that they can use for inspiration!

Dear North Families,
We are getting very excited about the warmer weather! We hope you have an amazing weekend :)
Swarm Together,
Mrs. Rayburn

4th graders were able to go on a couple of field trips this week! The first was a free concert at CMU to listen to their symphony orchestra! The kids learned the different instruments and enjoyed listening to them play! The second was a field trip to the Alma Fairgrounds to learn about our rural community! This trip is completely funded by Gratiot County Farm Bureau! The students learned about a wing sprayer tractor, were stewards of the soil by planting soybeans, and loved seeing and hearing interesting facts about calves and pigs!

Third graders had the opportunity to learn some golfing and goal setting skills from Noah Slater, an Ithaca alumni, and First Tee of Northern Michigan! What fun!! We have some future Ithaca golfers!!!

Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Rayburn! North is a better place because of you! 💐

The 5th graders had a great time at our school woods. They had to be creative and use their science knowledge while enjoying the great outdoors. Thank you to Mrs. Hindbaugh-Marr and our community members who keep the woods clean and ready for our students to use!

4th loved Ms. Zimmer's tortoises! The students learned a lot about adaptations tortoises have versus turtles! Thank you to Ms. Zimmer for bringing them in!
