2020-2021 Back To School Parent Survey Clarification

Ithaca Schools Parents:

Due to some confusion over the survey that was sent out earlier this week, we would like to clarify some information and make note of an alteration we have made to the survey. The goal was to have it short and to the point in honoring your time. For this reason, if you answered a certain way on the last question of the first page, the survey submitted and you were done. However, we now know that your answers may differ depending on the scenario for next year. For this reason, the full survey is open now and doesn't stop early depending on your answers. If you have already filled out the survey, but would like to fill it out again and answer the last question or two you may not have had the chance to answer before, please do so by going back to the survey at https://forms.gle/GpBrR6cC6ovXHpZVA

We would also like to clarify our reasoning behind this survey. First, no decisions for next year have been made. All school districts in the state of Michigan are waiting for the state's mandates on education for the 20-21 school year. Whether this is another school closure, a form of social distancing with a partial school opening, or being fully open, Ithaca Public Schools, like all Michigan schools, will have to follow the mandates of the state when they are given. We miss seeing our students and families and hope we can meet in person with some normalcy again next year. However, we can only operate within the legal boundaries we are given by the state. The purpose of the survey is to collect data on some "what-if" scenarios so that when we know what we can and can't do, we will be prepared with some options to further plan for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for your time and dedication to your child's education!

Device Personal Purchase Program

As in the past, Vendors whose pricing has been secured through the Statewide Bidding Process are extending those prices to you to purchase a device for personal use. The PDF at the link below lists the link for each of the vendors as well as a listing of devices on the sites that require a login to view. This allows you to look before the need to create a login. These devices are for personal purchase and Ithaca Public Schools in no way benefits from these sales.

Parent Update Letter

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in getting educational information to your child and all children. As we continue to wait for direction from the state level, be assured the administration and staff are working together on solutions to get educational activities out to students. We have to take into consideration the staff and students’ ability and comfort with the technology, along with internet and data access. We are also aware that some levels of education and subject areas are easier to facilitate at home with parent help than others. Teachers want to encourage, not frustrate, the students and parents. We have posted free sites on our website so students may go in and work on the supplemental activities.

Sincerely,

Sarah Kettelhohn
Interim Superintendent

Coronavirus (COVID-19) information

These times are unprecedented. While the information about the Coronavirus continues to change, we are committed to keeping our students, staff, and community safe. At the same time, we also want to continue education as much as possible for our students while they remain away from school during the mandatory closure. Please continue to check and use this seciton of the website for Coronavirus (COVID-19) updates including the impact on Ithaca Public Schools and dissemination of information as it becomes available.

Check out the resources we have shared on this site in regards to internet connectivity and continuing education with your child at home. While this situation is certainly out of the ordinary, it is a perfect time to show our children that the opportunity to learn and have fun is always there.
